Jorge Alvaro-Fuentes is a Tenured Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in the Soil and Water Department at the Aula Dei Experimental Station (EEAD-CSIC) in Zaragoza, Spain. His scientific career focuses on the effects of agricultural management on soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics and crop performance in Mediterranean conditions.

Senior researcher with a PhD in Biology. 27 years of research experience in soil science acquired in laboratory and field studies in Spain and the UK. The main areas of research are: soil erosion, soil degradation and desertification processes and mechanisms at different scales, the effects of land use and management on the biogeochemical cycles, soil protection and rehabilitation of semiarid areas.

Dr. Joris de Vente advances interdisciplinary research on the impacts of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) on soil and water resources and ecosystem services from local to regional scales in the context of climate change (adaptation and mitigation) and land degradation (prevention and restoration). He combines (participatory) field monitoring, numerical modelling techniques, and socio-ecological systems analysis to identify barriers and motivators for implementation of SLM and sustainable business models.

She's a Tenured Scientist since 2000. She's working on soil evaluation and monitoring of soils, and she´s interested in soil, erosion control, and vegetation, with emphasis on the physical characteristics and the specific ecological strategies for sustainable use. She has experience in precision agriculture using databases and decision support systems in Mediterranean agroecosystems.

My expertise is about valorization of organic wastes (Composting). Use of compost as organic amendment and organic substrate, with added value, suppressive activity against different plant pathogens. Use of different “omics” (metagenomics, metaproteomics, and metabolomics) to study soil and compost microbial community and different mechanism of suppression. Use of microbiological and molecular tools to early detection of pathogens and to motorization of biological control agents.

Maria Almagro researches the impacts of changes in climate, land use and management on soil and water resources and their associated ecosystem services (food and raw material supply, erosion control, improved water retention, soil formation, carbon sequestration, and maintenance of fertility and biodiversity) at farm and landscape scales. His research aims to promote sustainable agricultural and forestry practices adapted to local conditions to increase the resilience of managed ecosystems to climate change and to align an economically profitable model of agriculture with soil conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
